The growth in private markets, helped by institutional participation, has been one of the most prominent investment themes of the past decade. Private equity assets under management have increased by a factor of nine since 2000, compared to three for public equity. Covid-19 did nothing to disrupt the trend and LGIM expects growth to continue in 2022.
