Tomás Carruthers initiated Project Heather as a platform to progress the social finance vision he developed after two decades working in the traditional finance industry. A successful pioneer, he co-founded Electronic Share Information, the first website to publish share prices, in 1994, and went on to establish and lead Interactive Investor plc. Through the financial crisis he saw a need for systems change, resulting in the Social Stock Exchange, of which he was CEO until 2017. As a recognised thought leader on social and ethical finance, Tomás has provided input to institutions such as United Nations, OECD and the World Exchange Congress on why and how we can reach global goals with capital markets. He has been a prominent name on the global stage including launching Project Heather’s impact reporting consultation with the endorsement of the UN Development Programme at the 2019 UN General Assembly. Tomas also was the driver behind the development of the Transparency Principles under the OECD Social Impact Investment Initiative. He has been steadfast in his commitment to systems change, challenging the status quo in pursuit of financial architecture that will support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With Project Heather, he is leading a team who are committed to proving that business can bring value to society without sacrifice to shareholders if these businesses have intention and purpose.
