Gina Miller is driven by passion – for fairness, justice and civic responsibility. Gina is best known for her victories in the two most significant British constitutional cases since the 1700s. In 2016, Gina successfully challenged the UK Government over its authority to implement Brexit by triggering Article 50 without Parliamentary approval. In 2019, when Prime Minister Boris Johnson sought to close the doors of Parliament unlawfully Gina again took the UK Government to court and won in the Supreme Court with an extraordinary unanimous 11 judge ruling. These are unique constitutional milestones and fundamental to the preservation of the separation of powers.
From a business perspective, Gina is co-founder of SCM Direct, founded in 2009, offering clients smart, common-sense and modern investment management underpinned by a corporate culture of integrity, honesty and transparency. This strong sense of corporate responsibility led Gina to launched the True and Fair Campaign with her husband and business partner, Alan Miller, in 2012 calling for hugely improved ethics, consumer protection and transparency in the pensions, investment and wider financial services sector. Her campaigning resulted in contributions and text in three EU Directives – Article 24 of MiFID II, PRIPS and The Shareholder Directive.
Gina’s work in the charity sector over the last 20 years has helped to improve governance, sustainability and safeguarding. She has also been vocal about smarter giving , responsible capitalism and has co-authored several reports on poverty, financial transparency in the charity sector, as well as funded projects and policy work on modern day slavery, domestic violence, sexual abuse amongst people with special needs, and wider sexual abuse exposes. Much of Gina’s lobbying has resulted in changes, both in the UK and EU law, that have vastly improves the lives of consumers and the most vulnerable in society.
Her book ‘Rise: Life Lessons in Speaking Out, Standing Tall & Leading the Way’, published in 2019, details her extraordinary journey with her honesty hailing it a landmark in inspirational writing. To say that Gina refuses to give up, is an understatement!
