Michael Moore
Michael Moore
Director General of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.
Over the past 30 years he has operated at senior levels in both politics and business. In his political career he was a Member of Parliament for 18 years and served in the Cabinet at the time of the Coalition, as Secretary of State for Scotland; in this role he negotiated the arrangements for the independence referendum in 2014 on behalf of the UK government.
After his period as a minister he served as European Business Adviser to the Deputy Prime Minister. He also successfully piloted legislation through Westminster which enshrines the UN’s ‘0.7%’ aid spending commitment in UK law. Over the course of his parliamentary career Michael’s focus was primarily on business, international affairs (including the European Union) and Scotland.
After the 2015 General Election Michael became a Senior Adviser at PwC, working with boards and ‘C-suite’ executives on the strategic implications of Brexit and other political issues, such as the devolution of powers to the nations and regions of the UK. He had previously qualified as a Scottish chartered accountant with the firm and worked in its corporate finance practice before his election to Parliament.
