Wai leads Klareco’s public affairs practice. He provides counsel to clients on strategic communications, public affairs and crisis management. Wai Leong is also responsible for developing new businesses, nurturing alliances and promoting Klareco Communications’ brand across the region.
Wai has extensive knowledge of Southeast Asia, having lived and worked in Singapore, Myanmar and Indonesia. He joined Klareco Communications in its Myanmar office at the start of 2015 and helped clients in a range of sectors, including a Chinese state-owned company in the energy sector and a leading Myanmar bank pioneering e-payment services in the emerging market.
He then moved to Indonesia and was tasked with establishing Klareco’s in-market presence in the country. He led the office for three years, growing it from scratch to a team of seven today. During this period, he led Tokopedia, an Indonesian e-commerce unicorn, out of the biggest data privacy crisis in the company’s history, among others.
Prior to joining Klareco, Wai Leong was an associate with a specialised public affairs consultancy where he helped tech companies such as Google and Facebook navigate the complexities of regulatory changes in the region and advised them on their engagement with government stakeholders.
