Former UK Energy Minister
Chris is the former UK Energy Minister who signed the UK's net zero commitment into law. Chris was elected as the Conservative MP for Kingswood in 2010. He sat on the Health Select Committee from 2010 to 2013, and the Education Select Committee from 2012 to 2014. In 2013, he was appointed to the Number 10 Policy Board, and in September 2014 he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Number 10 Policy Board. In May 2015, he was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
In 2023 he published Mission Zero, the UK's Independent Review of Net Zero commissioned by the UK government.
He is Chair of the Centre for Economic Transition Expertise (CETEx) at LSE and recently was the chair of the Policy Working Group of the UK Transition Finance Council. He is currently co-chair of the UK Net Zero Council's Sector Transition Plan programme.
