Impact & the numbers behind it. The real ones

Being the sad person I am, I was on LI & other platforms at the weekend, reading various posts. And trying NOT to read others. This one, from Bonnie-Lyn de Bartok on LI caught my attention because it put figures - real, actual figures - behind the wild words whizzing around and outlined the opportunities available for those who are open to them. The question, of course, is who are those people?

🔴 Ukraine’s $486B Rebuild: Who’s Paying & What’s the role for Impact Investors ?

Protecting & Rebuilding Ukraine is a $486 billion challenge—but who’s actually putting up the money? And how can impact investors step in to rebuild not just infrastructure, but lives? 💜

Here’s the hard cash behind the commitments, what we know so far… (I believe UK 🇬🇧 and Ireland 🇮🇪 made additional commitments this afternoon)

✅ European Union: €67.7B for resilience, €48.7B for military aid, €1.5B from Russian asset profits (source)
✅ United States: $25B in financial aid + proposed $50B loan using frozen Russian assets (source)
✅ United Kingdom: £3B for reconstruction + $3.3B new loan (source)
✅ EBRD: €16.6B in 2024 alone (source)
✅ Norway: $3.12B in 2025 alone (source)
✅ World Bank: $38B mobilized, $29B already disbursed (source)
✅ Japan: Over $7B in aid, including a $5.5B humanitarian package (source)

🇨🇦 What is Canada’s Commitment to Ukraine:
•   $5 billion pledged, with $2.5 billion already disbursed (source)
•   $4.5 billion in military assistance to Ukraine through 2029 (source)
•   $442 million in development assistance, focusing on economic growth & governance (source)
•   $28 million+ allocated for specific reconstruction projects (source)

💡 Where do impact investors fit in?
Beyond government aid, private capital will determine the speed and scale of Ukraine’s comeback.

🔹 Affordable housing: Fund projects for displaced communities
🔹 Healthcare & education: Rebuild schools & hospitals for long-term stability
🔹 Renewable energy: Invest in decentralized wind & solar to boost energy independence
🔹 Small businesses: Fuel Ukraine’s entrepreneurs to reignite the economy

This is a once-in-a-generation impact opportunity. Those who step in now will shape Ukraine’s future.

LION-S would like to help. In development of our strategy is a portion reserve for Impact Investing.
