A story about people, climate or mining?

Yes.

First and foremost, people. Fires are incredibly frightening, hopefully a tragedy does not take place in and around the fires up north.

As for #climate, this story is part of a pattern. What happened in Hawaii is hard to understand. Fires in northern Ontario and Quebec earlier this summer that made the skies over Toronto, New York and Chicago smoke filled are also hard to understand. A tropical storm is moving toward California. These aren’t isolated incidents, temperature and drought/rain anomalies are happening, once in a century climate events are a new norm.

This story is also about #mining, and not just because there are mines hunkering down in the Northwest Territories. #climatechange is a fact, mitigating impacts starts with driving the #energytransition as quickly as we can. We need minerals to build tomorrow’s clean tech, which is why this story is also about mining. Growing #criticalminerals tonnage is one of the major challenges that we face in coming years. Successful conflict-free growth depends on collaboration, including community-centric focus, #blendedfinance that leverages #mininginvestment with non-traditional investors and #asm formalization that enhances dignity and productivity in the vast artisanal mining sector.

The fact that this story is about people, climate and mining shows how crises are interconnected. How quickly we move toward #netzero depends on how effective we are at long-term planning and thinking through systemic connects.
