UK’s Deputy HM Trade Commissioner for North America

Kunal is the UK’s Deputy HM Trade Commissioner for North America, based at the British Consulate General in New York City.

In this role he is responsible for leading a team on company, regulatory and political engagement to help support UK companies export and expand in the US and Canadian markets, and firms and funds from North America to invest into the UK.

Prior to this he spent five years at the British Embassy Beijing as the UK’s Minister-Counsellor & Director for Financial and Professional Services covering financial and macro-economic reporting, trade & investments, and negotiations through the annual Economic and Financial Dialogue.

He also spent seven years at HM Treasury as a senior advisor on the rescue of UK banks in 2008, the euro-area crisis, G7 negotiations on sanctions and tackling illicit finance, and as Private Secretary and speechwriter to the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Sir Danny Alexander.

Kunal has also worked at the World Bank, United Nations and The Economist Newspaper, and is a published author on British politics covering the Blair governments from 2001 to 2007.

Kunal graduated from Oxford University, the LSE, and holds an MBA from Wharton.
